The Chord Crimson Plus interconnect cable is the result of a major re-think about how an entry level cable needs to perform, particularly with regard to affordable DVD Audio and SACD players. To get the best from these machines a cable with a wider bandwidth and lower noise floor is required.
The Calypso and Chrysalis interconnects that the Crimson Plus replaces are both co-axial design cables, the Crimson Plus uses two sets of identical conductors in a twisted pair configuration. This produces a greater degree of noise rejection than the more conventional coax design, especially when combined with the high coverage lapped shield Chord uses on the Crimson Plus.
The design of this cable also allows Chord to produce a Din to RCA version as a direct replacement for the Chrysalis Crimson is fitted with Chord's own gold-plated RCA plugs and is also available fitted with Din plugs, minijacks and almost any other termination you might need. It really is a versatile cable.
What to use it with - CD players, DVD players and tuners are the obvious contenders but as mentioned above, the Crimson is a great choice for entry level SACD and DVD audio players. The wider band width really pays dividends here. A good cable to use for Din connectors for both Naim and older Quad equipment. The design of the cable also allows us to configure Crimson Plus so that it performs really well with subwoofers. Long lengths present no problem at all.
